Exterior and landscape
In Dubai, a villa's outdoor spaces are used for much of the year, from shaded terraces to evening gatherings around the pool. The exterior is also the first thing you and your guests see. It deserves the same level of design thought as the rooms inside.
Exterior and landscape design is part of our villa turnkey scope. We plan the façade, entrance, outdoor living areas, pool and garden together with your interiors, so the whole property reads as one design rather than a house with a garden added later.
What’s included
- Brief review and site study
- Façade and entrance design
- Outdoor living and garden layouts
- Pool and pool deck design
- Landscape and exterior lighting
- 3D renders of the exterior
- Working drawings and specifications
- Authority submissions and NOCs
- Project management and on-site supervision
- Snagging, handover and a 12-month defects liability period set out in your contract
What our exterior and landscape design service covers
We look at the villa from the street to the back boundary. The aim is a property that makes a clear first impression, gives you comfortable places to sit, eat and swim outdoors, and connects naturally with the interiors.
Exterior work draws on the rest of our villa scope, including architecture and space planning, MEP and lighting, and bespoke joinery, so each element is designed and coordinated by one team.
- Façade design and material updates
- Grand entrances, driveways and garage approaches
- Outdoor living areas, terraces and outdoor dining
- Swimming pools, including infinity pool designs, and pool decks
- Gardens, planting layouts and hard landscaping
- Landscape and façade lighting
- Outdoor furniture and final detailing
Villa exterior example: MK Villa, Palm Jumeirah
At MK Villa on Palm Jumeirah, a 6,350 sq ft residence completed in 2023, the outdoor spaces were designed as part of the whole home. A custom-designed infinity swimming pool is integrated with the architecture and landscape, and a grand entrance with a spacious car garage was designed to create a strong first impression.
Inside, the villa carries glossy finishes, golden accents, a black marble dining area and custom imported lighting. Designing inside and out together meant the entrance and pool feel like part of the same home rather than separate projects.
Why we design the exterior and interior together
When the same team designs both, materials, colours and lighting can carry from the living room to the terrace, and views from inside can be planned around the pool and garden. Our Palm Jumeirah Villa shows the calm, practical approach to family living that we bring to a villa as a whole.
Before any work starts, we produce detailed 3D renders so you can see the façade, entrance and outdoor areas in context and make changes on screen. For ideas on planning outdoor spaces, read our guide to landscape design for Dubai villas.
Designing outdoor spaces for Dubai's climate
An outdoor area that looks good in a render still has to be comfortable in strong sun, heat and wind-blown sand. Climate shapes almost every exterior decision, from where the seating goes to the finish on the pool deck.
We plan shade first, using pergolas, canopies, planting and the villa itself to create outdoor rooms you can use for more of the year. Evening use matters just as much, so lighting is designed for dining, swimming and safe movement along paths, not only for the look of the façade at night.
- Paving and deck finishes that stay comfortable underfoot and slip resistant around the pool
- Planting suited to heat, with irrigation planned alongside the landscape layout
- Outdoor fabrics and furniture that cope with sun and dust
- Covered areas positioned for the direction of the sun at the times you use them
- Surface drainage so rain and pool water run away from the house
- Outdoor kitchens and barbecue areas placed so smoke and heat drift away from seating
How an exterior and landscape project works, step by step
We follow the studio's four stages. Throughout, we respect your style, keep the architect's design intent and give the contractor working drawings and specifications to build from.
- Programming, planning and predesign: your brief, a study of the villa and plot, and layout options for outdoor spaces.
- Construction documents: working drawings and specifications for the façade, pool, hard landscaping and lighting.
- Furniture, fixtures and equipment: outdoor furniture, lighting fixtures, finishes and accessories.
- Project coordination: approvals, trades and site quality through to handover, with snagging and a 12-month defects liability period set out in your contract.
What drives the cost of exterior and landscape works
We do not publish rates, because exterior projects range from refreshing a garden to rebuilding an entrance and adding a pool. The main drivers are listed below.
We can tailor the design and material selection to an approved budget. Send us the location, size of the villa and plot, and your vision, and we will return an indicative estimate and proposed timeline within one working day.
- The size of the property and outdoor area
- The extent of bespoke elements, such as outdoor kitchens, pergolas and built-in seating
- The grade of materials for façades, paving and pool finishes
- MEP and structural works, including pools, water features and lighting
- The specification of outdoor furniture
How approvals are handled for exterior works
Changes to the outside of a villa, and works such as pools, can need approval before they start. What applies depends on the community, and may involve the master developer and the relevant authority.
We handle submissions and NOCs as part of the programme, including drawings and compliance sign-off. Our authority approvals page explains how this works. If you are living in the villa, work can be phased with dust screening and agreed working hours.
Working on the outside of a villa you live in
Exterior works bring a different kind of disruption from interior works. Excavation for a pool or new foundations for a pergola means machinery, deliveries and spoil moving through the plot, often past the front door or along the side of the house.
We agree access routes, storage areas and protection for the house before work starts, and fence off excavations and open trenches, which matters most in homes with children or pets. The garden and pool may be out of use for part of the programme, so it helps to plan the sequence around family events or times you expect guests.
Community rules on working hours, parking and contractor access also apply, and we plan within them so your neighbours are disturbed as little as possible.
Thinking about maintenance at the design stage
A garden, pool and outdoor lighting all need looking after, and the design decides how easy that will be. Pool equipment needs access for servicing, irrigation needs to be adjustable as planting grows, and lighting controls should be simple enough to use every evening.
Choose planting with the time you or your gardener can give it in mind. A lush garden that needs constant attention and a simpler, hardier scheme can look equally good in a render, but they are very different to live with.
At handover, make sure whoever will look after the garden and pool is there to see how each system works. Manufacturers' warranties for pumps, filters, lighting and other equipment are passed on to you. If you are still shaping the rest of the property, our villa interior design service carries the same approach indoors, and our fit-out page explains how one team runs the build.
How to prepare, and where in Dubai we work
It helps to share the villa's location and community, any site plans or drawings, photos of the existing exterior, how you want to use the outdoor spaces, and your target budget. Images of gardens, pools or façades you like are useful too.
Our studio is in Concorde Tower, Jumeirah Lakes Towers. We work across Palm Jumeirah, Emirates Hills, Dubai Hills Estate, Jumeirah, Arabian Ranches, DAMAC Hills, Umm Suqeim, Al Barari, Tilal Al Ghaf, MBR City, Jumeirah Golf Estates and The Meadows.

FAQ
Exterior & Landscape Design: Questions Answered
Clarity brings comfort. Discover answers to what others have asked, or reach out if yours is still unanswered.
Can you design the exterior and landscape without redoing the interior?
Exterior and landscape design is part of our villa turnkey scope. If your interiors are staying as they are, tell us what you want to change outside and we will agree the right scope with you, designing the outdoor spaces to suit the existing home.
Do you design swimming pools?
Yes, pools and pool decks can be part of the exterior scope. At MK Villa on Palm Jumeirah, a custom-designed infinity pool is integrated with the architecture and landscape.
How much does villa landscaping or a façade upgrade cost?
It depends on the size of the property, the extent of bespoke elements, the material grade, MEP and structural works, and the outdoor furniture specification. We do not quote generic rates. Share your villa details and we will send an indicative estimate and proposed timeline within one working day.
Will I see the design before work starts?
Yes. We produce detailed 3D renders before execution, so you can review the façade, entrance, pool and garden and adjust them before anything is built.
Do exterior changes need community approval?
Often, yes. It depends on the community and the scope, and may involve the master developer and the relevant authority. We handle submissions and NOCs as part of the programme.
Can the garden and pool be built in phases?
Yes, if that suits your budget or plans. We design the whole outdoor area first so later phases fit, and where it makes sense, pipes and cables for future elements are laid during the first phase to avoid digging up finished work.
Can you work with our existing pool or garden?
Yes. Not every exterior project starts from scratch. We look at what is worth keeping, such as mature trees, an existing pool or paving in good condition, and design the new elements around it, which can reduce both cost and disruption.
Is there a warranty on exterior works?
Our work carries a 12-month defects liability period set out in your contract. Manufacturers' warranties on equipment and fixtures are passed on to you.
